The internet is communications, not information technology. It is a means for slinging vast amounts of data around the world. Useful? Yes! Sometimes. Informational? Maybe! Sometimes. Are there criteria and controls to assure the data slung is meaningful, accurate, appropriate, and coherent? No! Nor should there be ... for the internet. But without criteria and controls ... what business needs (but lacks) to assure the informability of their own systems ... the internet is only by the laziest and least precise definitions "information technology." With agendas and biases run rampant, much of what passes through the internet is the antithesis of information technology. It is extraordinarily anti-informational.
